Build You Own Brand. Research Target Audience
You can't build a quality brand without being maintaining that as you extend your brand to every part of your business. But it all starts with establishing what that consistency is going to look like and the feeling you want it to evoke.
How to Build a Brand
Building your own brand essentially boils down to 7 steps:
- Research your target audience and your competitors.
- Pick your focus and personality.
- Choose your business name.
- Write your slogan.
- Choose the look of your brand (colors and font).
- Design your logo.
- Apply your branding across your business and evolve it as you grow.
While you might revisit some steps as you pivot your brand, it's important that you consider each aspect as you shape your brand identity.
This is a more nuanced statement than you might think. A simple answer might be “provide good customer service, sell well constructed products, and there is your brand.” But customer service should be expected and faulty products are in the eye of the beholder. Something that does not cost a lot but only lasts after a few uses might be perfectly acceptable, even desirable, in some circumstances. McDonalds has a brand that has been quite profitable for them in which they sell low cost food. It is not high cuisine. Imagine how you would respond if they suddenly started serving food that was comparable to Michelin rated restaurants? Conversely, imagine what would happen if you went to a Michelin rated restaurant and received McDonalds quality food?
Your brand is about customers’ expectations, and deviating from that brand once it is set, even if you are doing it in a “good way” can have detrimental effects. So you want to spend a good amount of time considering what space you want to occupy because once you commit, it might be incredibly difficult to change course. Logos, names, these things are window dressing. The heart of the matter is that reputation; craft it, align it with your intentions, and develop it accordingly and you will be successful regardless of the corresponding visuals
Brand development is the process of creating and strengthening your professional services brand.
Developing a stronger brand is most important task.
Brand strength = Your reputation X Your visibility
